Robert George's father is Mr Ivan Henry Howden and his mother is Carole Lesley Irene Dowles.  His paternal grandparents were Allan Malcolm Howden and Violet Evelyn Smith.  He is the second of four children.  He has two brothers and a sister, named Jonathan Henry, Stuart Allan and Sarah Evelyn Lesley.
